Things to Know About Shipping Container Trailers for Trucks

Posted on: 26 August 2022

Shipping containers are being used for more purposes than just hauling things from one place to another. They are now used to build homes, barns, garages, and workshops. The difficult thing is getting them delivered. It is not as simple as having a 19-wheeler pulling up to your property to just drop it off. When you are ready to have the unit delivered, there are a few different types of shipping container trailers for trucks to make the delivery. Here are a few things to consider when choosing the type of truck and trailer to bring to you.

Weight of the Container

Your state has regulations on how much weight can be pulled on a trailer on municipal roads. This weight will include the weight of the trailer it rides on. If you are getting a smaller container then this might not be an issue. However, you need to check with the State Department of Transportation to check the limits. Consider that an aluminum trailer weighs much less than a steel trailer. This means you can have a heavier container shipped.

If an aluminum flatbed trailer is still going to have a weight that is too heavy, you can have a gooseneck trailer deliver it. Due to the way this trailer is made, all the weight is not going to be on the trailer itself but can be spread across the rear axles. This makes it safer and legal to haul an extra heavy container.

Will You Need a Crane?

Getting the container off the trailer can also prove problematic. The container is very heavy. You will need to choose between having a crane come out to your place to lift the container from the trailer and place it where you want it or making sure the trailer can tilt and slowly dump the container off. Of course, if you do not have a lot of space for the large truck and trailer to maneuver in your yard, you should use a crane. The truck and trailer can pull up to the house, staying on the street, and then the crane can lift it off and carefully place it where you want it.

Once you have decided on the container you want, contact a shipping company and ask which of the shipping container trailers they use. Get the weight and size dimensions of the container and discuss which trailer will best suit your needs.
